One of the great things about the Internet is the countless ways to make money. Whether you were aware of it or not, tons of people are earning cold-hard cash by working on the web. Approximately 15 years ago people started using the internet to make money with websites and e-mail was the primary way to do advertising and to communicate.Today, social networking is so huge that it’s leaving e-mail, regular blogging for business, and even regular business websites in its dust.
From tiny business startups to independent consultants and mega-huge multinational corporations, businesses have adopted Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn as their main communication with their members. The social networking craze is also generating enough traffic for many blog and website owners to make some extra cash, or a primary income from pay per click programs with Google adsense, Yahoo or Bling. You can make a boat load of cash if you place relevant ads in with your relevant content.
Still, the social media, for all their promise, can be particularly difficult for business to master. The biggest problem with social media traffic is finding some metrics to measure performance and pay back. The social media craze has spawned a blended platform called social media blogging that is combined with quality pay per click programs to get a pay back from the traffic you from the social media sites. This most probably will the wave of the future.
A social blog is a way to take short posts or microblogs and status updates – video links, short messages, pictures –and to communicate with those. In traditional blogging for business, the business blog sits there and expects users to come read. A twist to this concept especially with the smaller blogs is to ad a variety of pay per click programs and their advertisements to make some extra cash from the traffic. The beauty of social blogging is that all updates go directly to followers of your particular business type. Typically, consumers of a particular type of product or service, go the social blogs so they can communicate back to online businesses about positive and negative aspects of their products.
One example I can think of is the social blog called MyStrarbucks. When this blog was introduced a couple of years ago may though their was little chance of success but they were wrong. Now you wont see any pay per click programs here but the main goal of the site is to generate more sales for Starbucks.
One of the website’s most popular ideas has been the one where they invite suggestions from website visitors for new menu items and ideas for store and package designs. While all of this is fairly regular stuff, they took it into social blogging territory when they brought out their Ideas in Action blog. Their plan was to take up ideas that fans of the website had made for changes they wish to see and show followers how the company was rolling with them.
Starbucks even goes to the lengths on twitter to offer their customers current event information that they can discuss and comment on, which is an excellent idea to get the online community talking. Another twist used with social blogs is to create small one line blogs designed to target one keyword. These blogs are created on the basis of what the customer is interested in.
With the technology advances with cell phones and the internet social blogs have driven full force to communicate to their customers using this media. Social blogging to cell phones can generate a lot of traffic but you have to have very small blogs and communicate everyday. You could say social blogging is regular blogging, only one that tends to be very small because of the limitations of the medium. It’s a way of seeing blogging, and the social media not as two separate kinds of media but as one amorphous thing that includes everything, and advertising such as incorporating pay per click programs is a big part too.
